About

My ceramic journey began when my career lead me to teach ceramics. This has in turn inspired me to further explore and evolve my own creative process. I primarily make wheel thrown forms out of stoneware clay bodies. I am inspired by the simplicity and functionality of Scandinavian design. Scandinavian design is a design movement that became visible in the early 20th century in the Nordic countries and can be distinguished by its simplistic, functional and minimalist qualities. I am interested in making simplistic, beautiful utilitarian objects for everyday use. The act of making pottery is a deliberate way for me to slow down and focus in a fast paced world. Each form serves as a surface for pattern and design. What interests me is to be creative within a given number of constraints or limitations. I like to use one visual element such as a shape or line in repetition to create a strong graphic statement.
